Get Rid of Negative Self Talk

Lightning StrikingChanging the thoughts that you allow to go through your mind is one huge way to change your life. If you feel that you haven’t reached the level of success in your life that you think you should have, you might want to look at what you are saying to yourself all day. Perhaps this is as good a time as any to stop and think about what you are thinking about.

Maybe you are someone who is always talking yourself out of your success without realizing it. Think about some of the questions on this list. (Please do yourself a favor and not just read through, but actually take the time to contemplate these questions.)

1)  Are you thinking more about what you don’t want instead of what you do want?

Examples:

“I don’t want to be late for that meeting.”
“I am so afraid that I won’t have my car payment.”
“I don’t want to have to move to a rental.”
“I don’t want to stay home all weekend.”

Exercise:     For one day pay attention to the thoughts that you allow to go through your head. When you notice that it is self demeaning or worded as something you do NOT want, immediately take a deep breath and revise the thought into a positive “what you DO want”.

2)  When you think about something you really want to have, do, or achieve, do your thoughts turn to the reasons that you cannot achieve it? Do you start thinking that you aren’t up to it, or that you don’t have the time, money, or qualifications to carry it through?

Examples:
“I’d really love to own my own business, but I don’t have….”
“I really need to make more money but I can’t…”
“I am not young anymore; they want people right out of college.”
“OMG I’m fat.”
“I can’t afford that.”

Exercise: Correct your negatives to the positive, even if you feel like you are lying to yourself. You will trigger unconscious factors to change your choices and see openings in your path.

“Even if I don’t know how to get the money for my own business, I know I can find the way.”
“What can I do to make more money?”
“Many millionaires never went to college. I can make this happen.”
“I am working on my weight, changing a habit every day till I reach my goal.”
“In a short time, I can afford this.”

3) Do you have imaginary conversations in your mind about arguing with another person, telling them off, giving them advice about something you think they need to know or such?
Examples:
“The next time I see Bill I’m going to tell him he needs to….”
“I should have told her right then and there to mind her own business…”
“That *&!@# jerk almost ran me over…”

Exercise: Dwelling on whatever the event was just gives that even more power over you. It is more minutes being stolen from your life for something that needs to be put in your past. You can’t change the past, but you can change today, which will change tomorrow. If you can’t get rid of the thoughts, dedicate ten minutes to completely focusing on it, picture you have beat them up or whatever with all your energy, and then tell yourself you are done and moving on to what brings positive change to your life. Deep breathing helps this as it makes the synapses of the brain go to the chores of running your body and interrupts brain patterns. Also, sometimes we have these thoughts because there is something that we need to work on in ourselves and we are avoiding looking at it or thinking about it.

There are many other things that go through our mind like this that are just plain negatives! How can you make the most of your life if you are continuously talking yourself out of being a success or talking terrible things to yourself? Many of us, in fact, don’t even realize we have so many negative thoughts. We also have to realize that these thoughts come first and they are followed by actions. Negative thoughts are never behind successful actions.

Positive self-talk is an effective say to set goals and guarantee that you stick to them, even if you’ve never been able to do this before. Set a goal and plan how you are going to attain it. Then, if self-doubt starts kicking in, you’ll respond to yourself with affirmations that point you in the direction of success.

Uploading a New Mind Program

Positive self-talk is easier to implement than you might think. You may not be aware of the severity of the negative dialogue currently within your mind. However, once you begin with positive self talk you’ll realize that you are self-sabotaging goals you’ve set for yourself from the minute that you made them. Reflecting on your mental processes can open your eyes to exactly how much this inner conversation has been interfering with your life. You’ll feel hopeful that you can now set goals and surpass them.

Through changing the raging in your mind to positive self-talk you’ll be able to easily set short and long-term goals for yourself. Positive statements are called affirmations. Using affirmations is a tool that really will push you further than you have ever gone before. Learning to quiet the negative thoughts in your mind with positive thoughts is a great move toward setting and attaining future goals easily.

One Step More
When you have made a solid positive statement that you intend to achieve, reach your hand around to your back and actually physically pat yourself on your back, or pat both hands on your chest in a declaration of success. This will anchor this statement into your body’s physical memory for a conscious and unconscious reminder to keep you on track to your goal.
